Sticks and Stones

Dear Friends,

I want to talk to you today about letting other people's words hurt you.

Let's be honest. Other people can hurt us by the words they use. Even a look, or sometimes worse, no look, can hurt our feelings. Let's look at it closer.

When was the last time someone hurt you with words? They said something that made you feel bad, or question yourself, when you thought you were doing the right thing?

Be aware of it. Notice yourself and what you feel like when someone says something that upsets you. Slow the whole process down. The better you know yourself, the better you can see clearly into what has a grip on you.

And really, let's always remember who is giving us grief. If the person knows what they are talking about, they are a respected professional and you trust them, then by all means, think seriously about what was said. Sometimes the truth hurts. But if someone gives negative and derogatory comments and you let them in, just consider the person who is doing the damage. Are they so perfect themselves? Do they speak from fear of your gain and their loss,  or from a true desire to be kind?  Be careful.

Discover what is in you that allows casual comments from people to hurt you.

And another thing, have you hurt someone today with your words?
