The closer we came to the image of the Black Madonna, the more beautiful and delicate the artwork. The last of the stairways had mosaics of holy women in different garbs.
After being surrounded by these beautiful women, the eye was taken by the head of John the Baptist held aloft by a strong woman.

These pictures are wonderful. . .Tiffany was there a sacred presence in the space?
Oh my Tiffy I hadn't seen this blog yet...how wonderful and what a gift to see all of those Mary's!!
Hello ladies,
Sparrow - There was a 'hushed feeling' and Albert turned to me after we'd seen the Virgin, and asked if I 'felt' anything. I said 'no'. I felt strange - because I'd had a mystical experience earlier in the cafeteria!!! (I'll write later about it) - but guess what we heard as we were leaving...
the original statue is kept in the cave. We didn't have enough time to go to see the cave. I laughed to myself. The virgin keeping her secrets. (Joan told us about the original. I didn't read it anywhere until later that it was true)
hey Elizabeth - welcome!! On the trail of the Goddess!

I love Montserrat! I hope to visit it again someday. Thanks for the link to my blog post for the photos. :)
